L.A. Plays Itself, Fred Halsted’s classic odyssey of Los Angeles men, has been hailed by critics around the globe as a watershed film in the history of gay erotic cinema. L.A. Plays Itself has been chosen for the permanent film collection of The Museum of Modern Art.

Fred Halsted
Director, sex-club owner and star in several porn classics, including all three episodes of the John Gage trilogy. He also provided the narration for Erotikus (1975), a film about the history of gay male porn (dir. Tom de Simone). By the mid 1970s, Halsted and his long-time living and business partner Joseph Yale founded the production company COSCO, trying to gain more control over their work. He overdosed on sleeping drugs in Orange County, California in 1989.
